The Ironbath’s favourite monetary unit is ‘free’, so he likes NoiseTrade – a website that allows artists to distribute their work for free in return for an email address. For artists it’s all about recognition and exposure largely with the aim to encourage people to come to their gigs. This sampler album has been uploaded to promote the SoundLand festival in Nashville and features Ironbath faves: Caitlin Rose, Justin Townes Earle, Jason Isbell & Ben Sollee amongst others that haven’t made it yet on to his radar.
It is always tantalizing to find a compilation where a third of the tracks are from favourite artists and the rest are unknown to you. On first listen the Ironbath thought that the tracks by Natalie Prass, The Bridges & Madi Diaz were worthy of further investigation.
Soundland sounds like a cool festival that’s going to rock Nashville. Memories of Music City flood back as the Ironbath recalls his first trip to Nashville back in 1989 – The Ironbath made his TV & radio debuts, he came face to face with a black bear in the Smokies, he strummed guitar in RCA Studio B, stood on stage at the Grand Ole Opry, and of course there was the occasion when he was threatened with arrest for inciting a riot…. but that is a story for another time!
