Something old, something borrowed, something blue

Something Old

Bristolian comedian and wannabe rock legend, Justin Lee Collins, sat in on the Dermot O’Leary show this week whilst Dermot was off “hugging idiots” as JLC described Dermot’s role co-presenting the UK’s X-Factor TV show. One of his guests was Joey Tempest from Europe (the band, not the continent). He offered up a low-fi acoustic version of their anthemic megahit, ‘The Final Countdown’. To be truthful it is not something that would normal appear on the Ironbath’s radar, but there is something to be said for this naked version.

Something Borrowed

The Ironbath doesn’t particularly care for Nick Lowe. It doesn’t really matter. Of course there are going to be some respected artists that just don’t manage to touch the Ironbath …. And the Ironbath is sure that Mr Lowe is not going to miss one less ‘facebook’ friend. Consequently the Ironbath didn’t take much notice when Nick Lowe appeared on Simon Mayo’s Drivetime radio show. Fortunately his cover of Elvis Costello’s classic ‘Alison’ was repeated later in the week. And it was certainly worth including below.

Something Blue

Laura Marling is popping up all over the place promoting her new CD, ‘A Creature I Don’t Know’ at the moment. She recently played three tracks in session on Lauren Laverne’s BBC 6 Music radio show. The Ironbath doesn’t quite think that Laura Marling has completely found her way in music yet, but she is getting closer to recording a wonderful album.
